Rabota: krizis chuvstvuetsa…uvi…mnogie poterjali rabotu. V osnovnom eto kasaetsa bolee ili menee prestijnix professij. No esli idti na stroiku,to mojno najti. Na craigslist.org posmotrite kakuju rabotu mojno najti. A eshe krizis chuvstvuetsa po kolichestvu domov na prodaju…Mnogie kto ne mojet zdes najti nichego uezjajut i prodaut doma,a nekotorie prosto ne mogut oplachivat ix…No ja nadejus chto vse nachnet potixonechku nalajivatsa. Только что были в Солт Лейк Сити, провели там 3 дня. Очень много встречались и разговаривали с людьми про жизнь и разные нюансы. Есть ли кто из Форумчан, кто там живет? Есть мысли по переезду туда, хотелось бы узнать больше деталей. Спасибо!

Здравствуйте! Прошу вашего совета. Мы с мужем 29 октября (через неделю) прилетаем на полгода в Солт Лейк Сити. Виза у нас B1\B2, присматриваем американский рынок для нашего IT проекта.
Отель мы уже подобрали на первое время, встал вопрос с постоянным жильем. Мы очень хотим найти дом для аренды на полгода (если все будет устраивать). Знаем, что нужна для этого кредитная история и SSN, но поскольку приехали мы в Америку первый раз и нерезиденты, то конечно предоставить это все не сможем. Можете, пожалуйста, дать какие-то рекомендации на этот счет?

В Солт Лэйк Сити бывал проездом несколько раз,но не жил никогда,интересовался этим местом,из отзывов самих американцев,там проживает спесефический контингент людей(Мормоны)они будут с вами вежливы,но если вы не из их круга,то пробится куда то повыше будет проблематинно,они продвигают только своих,но на низко оплачиваемы работы может и не будет проблем,климат пустыни,много солнца,зима холодная,лето сухое и жаркое,влажность очень низкая.
вспомнил,Моя дочь работала несколько лет тому назад на Toyota в Портланде,и встречала там одного молодого человека который жил в Солт Лэйке,но сбежал оттуда,сильно ему не понравилось,как то скучно показалалось,но каждый ищет свое в жизни как говорится,может кому то как раз то и надо,что там не так сильно весело,и кто что имеет ввиду под этим,тоже мнения разные,но с темнокожими там напряг точно,их там почти не видать!!!

Здесь не мегаполис - факт, но лично я после Москвы оочень этому рад 
В принципе из развлечений есть все и театры и клубы и бары, но в основном тут все помешаны на спорте и природе. Работа есть и как в любом другом месте все зависит от образования и естественно уровня языка. Что до мармонов, то меня они ни как не касаются, а на работе их явное меньшинство, повезло наверно 
Так что да, на вкус и цвет все фломастеры разные
У моего друга есть племянник он закончил на врача и надо было проходить какую то там практику или как она там называется точно не знаю,в общем он подал документы в Солт Лейк,когда пришел на собеседование с начальником тот посмотрел его документы и все ему понравилось,а потом спросил Ты мормон?когда он ответил Нет,то он типа сказал что здесь ему продвинутся не удастся,и он потом уже поступил в Сан-Франциско,что было очень накладно.И потом я несколько раз встречал коменты американцев на Sperling’s сайте о жизни например в Boise,Idaho,что мормоны там держат все,и если ты не мормон,то будешь всегда на третьих ролях,на серьезные позиции тебе пробится не удастся,но это уже тем кто имеет хорошее образование и английский настоящий,а эмигрантам это конечно не грозит,разве что их детям или внукам.
Про какое образование идет речь, так ради интереса? Инженеров тут с руками оторвут, да и в СЛС половина населения не мармоны. В деревнях типа Boise возможно и так, но опять же на позицию менеджера магазина?
Salt Lake City and surrounding suburbs are “interesting” to live in. On the plus side: the scenery is beautiful, the health care is excellent, the climate has all four seasons (summers are hot and dry, not humid), the mountains block strong winds, the city is very clean, low crime, and there are great outdoor activities (skiing, hiking, fishing, etc.)and the people are VERY friendly, when you first arrive. On the bad side: the air quality/pollution is terrible in the winter (people that “never get sick” are also affected by it, with migraines, sinus headaches, sore throat, etc.) The cost of living is very high, not Cali high, but still very overpriced. The people who are VERY friendly, are usually Mormons. When you move into a new neighborhood, they will bring you baked goods, shovel your driveway, and offer to watch your kids, all for “free.” They take these opportunities to try and convert you to become a Mormon. When they finally realize that you either have your own church/religion or that you just don’t want to join their church, the acts of “kindness” stop. The funny part is that they only “work on you” for 6 months to a year; they give up too quickly. I’ve lived in places where other churches can keep working on you for over ten years. The bad part is that once they know that you won’t join, all of the “friendliness” stops. You are no longer included in neighborhood BBQ’s, and your kids stop getting birthday party invitations from the neighbor kids. (Even though we pretty much live like Mormons, we have actually been told by a Mormon Bishop, that our kids could no longer play with his kids, because we would not convert to Mormonism.) With the job market, it can be the same way. Mormons usually only hire other Mormons (no, you can’t ask about religion at a job interview, but Mormon’s will list their Bishop as a reference and list their LDS mission as experience, this and other ways are how they can tell). They also prefer light skinned people (unless you are fluent in Spanish). The good paying jobs usually go to very light skinned Mormons (they even discriminate within their own group). If you are anything but very white, you’d better be a doctor, or a research scientist if you want a job. There is a large LGBT population in the actual city, but many of them struggle to find a job with decent wages, even if they have a college degree, unless they go to great lengths to hide their orientation. All of my previous comments sound nasty, but that is MY experience. I am NOT speaking for everyone. Here’s the funny thing, my best friend is a Mormon. For every 4 or 5 that aren’t so nice, there is one that is an Angel and doesn’t care about your religion and will not try to convert you. Not all Mormons are the same (of course). The only other issue is that there is no real separation of church and state here. While other kids get spring break in March, Utah’s revolves around Easter. High School kids are allowed to leave campus during study hall and go across the street to a Mormon church for religious education. They claim that it’s not a violation of church and state, because the Mormon church is not on school property. This happens during school, in the middle of the day. The LDS/Mormon church owns a very large amount of property/businesses here. If you are white, straight, and you are willing to convert, then this is the perfect place to live.

Having lived in Boise most of my life, I’ve made one observation that is widely unknown (to those outside this region), and rarely talked openly about by those who do live here. It is the influence of religion in this state, and specifically, the LDS/Mormon religion.
My eyes weren’t opened to this until Dan Popkey, a reporter for the Idaho Statesman (our news daily), reported in the early nineties that despite the U.S. Census indicated that while 13% of the state in Mormon, almost exactly 40% of the state legislature is Mormon, and that 40% tends to vote as a block on almost all issues. That means that members of the LDS faith have over three times greater representation in the state legislature than non-Mormons. The effects of this are profound in terms of the laws that are written in this state, as well as the political and social culture of the state.
Idaho is often referred to as “the reddest of the red states”. That is often not so much due to the influence of the Republican Party, but the LDS religion. If you’re LDS, you can move from Utah to Idaho and not see a cultural difference between the states. If you move to Idaho from neighboring Oregon, on the other hand, the difference is profound. If you’re not interested in living in something of a theocracy, you should probably think twice (or three times) before moving to Idaho. If, on the other hand, you’re Mormon, you’ll probably love it here.

Я просто привел мнение двух людей которые живут или жили в Юта и Айдахо,они конечно могут ошибаться но я встречал таких мнений предостаточно,а в общем как Boise так и SLC мне даже нравятся,был там не раз,ночевал в отелях,ел в ресторанах,хорошие ,чистые,консервативные города.
У меня знакомые живут и в Нью Йорке и в Вашингтоне и тоже считают СЛС дырой Но для начала, кмк вполне себе нормально Кстати, в последнее время народ в СЛС перезжает из Калифорнии, здесь жить дешевле 
Как почитаешь американские форумы,то все злятся на калифорнийцев ,откуда только они берутся в таких количествах,и везде куда бы они не приехали поднимают цены на местных рынках жилья,людям это страшно не нравится,пишут что мол жили себе спокойно при нормальном раскладе цен,даже с малой зарплаты можно было себе позволить купить хоть какой то домик,особенно молодым семьям,и что вы думаете?Приперлись эти кали пипл,там продали свои халупы за такие деньги что здесь покупают дворцы или несколько домов,цены на недвижимость и на рент задрали,а зарплаты у местных остались те же,теперь молодежь сколько бы не работали на десятку не то что домик,даже приличный рент и то снять не могут.В общем на калифорнию смотрю везде злые,куда бы они не приехали,везде жизнь только ухудшают.
И где я написал что я на них злой =-O в офисе половина народа от туда, специфика работы. Я хотел сказать, что здесь жить дешевле чем в Калифорнии вот народ и переезжает
наше имигрантское мнение конечно никто в расчет не берет,тут разговор о небольших городах куда в последнее время переехала масса калифорнийцев и как на это реагируют локал пипл
Оver all, the people near and around Missoula are wonderful, caring and friendly folk. They do a great job of demonstrating what it means to be a community. There is no shortage of things to do either. However, over the past 5-10 years, there has been an influx of new residents from California and Seattle. With their money, these people have driven up the cost of living for everyone else and have made it nearly impossible for ordinary people to be able to have a decent standard of living. Since good paying jobs are difficult to find, many people have to work 2-3 full time jobs just to get by. The housing market has spiraled out of control to where no one except Califorians and Washingtonians can afford a place to live. In addition to these economic woes, these same groups have brought with them their extremist-radical socialistic views. While the Washingtonians appear to be at least open minded, the radicals from CA (namely San Fransisco) appear to be imposing their will on everyone else. These freeze-dried hippies keep driving up people’s taxes (3 tax hikes in the past year alone) and proposing more wasteful spending (like building a trolley of all things downtown.)
My advice would be to move to the beautiful Bitterroot, Jocko, or Mission Valleys. This way, you might be able to avoid the antics of the transplants.
If you are planning on moving here from California or Western Washington, please don’t. There are already too many of you here.

Привет всем форумчанам. Во первых хочу поблагодарить всех за то что делитесь своими историями, помогаете советами, и просто зато что Вы есть.
Мы уже год в США, мы это: я, жена, и два сына. На данный момент живем в Бруклине, но обстоятельства складываются таким образом, что по всей видимости я получу работу в Юте. Почти уверен в этом так как прошел серию интервю и каждый день мне звонят из компании типа: “Хотим удостовериться, что если сделаем вам job offer то…”, оговариваем детали, так сказать…
В случае получения предложения мне придется (для начала планирую один, пока не освоюсь) переехать в Юту, конкретно - Драпер. При чем придется это сделать в короткие сроки, начало января
По сему прошу у местных совета где лучше искать жилье, может что-то интересное о Юте о чем стоит знать, да и просто познакомиться. :). Зарание спасибо всем кто откликнется.
