Atlanta 4th Best City For Jobs

If you want to know where the jobs are, just take a look outside. Forbes Magazine says Atlanta is the fourth best city in America to find work.

The good news applies to the city itself and the metro area where more than a million new jobs are likely to be created in the next two decades.

In the last three years, the city’s tax digest has grown by $16 billion, and the number of jobs is up by nearly 18,000. Atlanta’s quality of life is one of the biggest draws for companies looking to relocate here, along with its up and coming workforce.

“We are a brain gain city,” said Peggy McCormick, President of the Atlanta Development Authority. “And what that means is the young professionals who’re graduating from college around the country are moving to Atlanta. And they’re moving here because there are a lot of jobs, because it’s a cool place to live, and it’s affordable."

The Atlanta Development Authority is like the city’s high-speed Business DSL, helping new and old businesses connect with funding, resources, and each other.

“It seems like a very nice place,” said Georgia State student Jenee Ewen. “It’s a lot more calm,” compared to New York, where she is from.

Ewen is precisely what makes the city attractive to new business. She’s young, smart, and upwardly mobile. To her, it’s no surprise that so many young people stay here after graduating from college. She said she plans to do the same when she finishes law school.

“It’s a diverse city,” she said, “and plenty people are migrating here from different parts of the country, so I would assume so."

She’ll have plenty of new neighbors. In the next 25 years, the number of jobs in the region is expected to increase by a million and a half. The population in the metro area could go up another 2 million. And those projections may be conservative. Over the same period of time, the city of Atlanta’s population is expected to explode as well.

“We who are in the city of Atlanta, which is pretty much Intown Atlanta, are planning on a lot of growth,” said ADA’s McCormick. “We’re at about 500,000 residents right now. Conservative estimates go to 750,000. Some people think we’ll double. And so our opportunity and challenge is how we’re going to grow.”

To help prospective and current business owners connect, the ADA holds free information sessions on the fourth Wednesday of every month. There’s also small business funding available.

They’re just a couple of the way’s the city generates jobs and growth. The latest big company to call Atlanta home will be Wipro, an IT service out of India expected to bring 1,000 new jobs.

It wasn’t long ago that 11Alive ran a story moaning that companies were bypassing Atlanta, were moving to other cities to escape the traffic, crime, etc. Now they tell us the opposite. It is really hard to put much credence in the reporting on this site when the stories seem to contradict each other so often.

Correction … the biggest problem we are facing other than crappy traffic is the fact that we dont have enough water for the people that we have here already … so lets just add aother million or two to that figure and then see how beautiful the lake looks in about oh lets say 4 or 5 days. BONE DRY. ANNEX TENNESSEE!!!

Anyone who believes this garbage is really stupid. First of all, the only major corporate headquarters that Atlanta is home to is Home Depot, UPS, and Coke. A vast majority of the jobs that these corporations employ are labor based. It is clear that the few people that believe this crap have not had the opportunity to live in real cities. Chicago, NY, D.C. Houston, and Dallas all have major corporations that employ professionals. Sure Atlanta has jobs (just over broke), but when it comes to the corporate level, this city can’t compete. A job can be anything from minimum wage to 100k which category does Atlanta fit. I think those of us who are educated professionals know the answer.

If Atlanta’s population is going to double they had better work on some MAJOR infrastructure NOW! MARTA is a joke; and the Water/Sewer System need a complete overhaul. The Suburbs are already becoming over-built, and there is no plan for an Outer Transit System that would handle the incoming city traffic. It already takes forever to drive into Atlanta, and new roads will not fix the problem. Passenger rail service needs to start building in the next two years, or they will never keep up.

Top 5 Jobs in Atlanta

  1. Crack Dealer
  2. Pot Dealer
  3. Burglar
  4. Common Thief
  5. Prostitute

If Atlanta could tax these jobs, they could afford the new cable car system they want.

I agree, if they could get with surrounding cites as in Athens, Commerce, Cumming etc… and all pitch in for the cost, they could get rail systems in place that would cut down vehicle traffic in Atlanta. Also make it the more you use it the cheaper it is to use it, like better prices on yearly passes or monthly passes. Shame just happens in a dream world.

I read the headline “Atlanta…City For Jobs” and wondered what have I been missing. I was layed off 5 months ago and I’m still looking for a job. My heart sank when I read the second paragraph which read “more than a million new jobs are likely to be created in the next two decades.” For people like me, this story was tease. Okay, back to my search…

I am with you Job Hunter, I have been looking for work also. When I read the headline, the first thought that went through my head was, really where are they? Am I doing something wrong in busting my hump 10 hours per day searching for a job/career. I’ll continue to be on my search as well. Good luck with yours.

They’re not going to make improvements proactively. They will wait until traffic is ten times worse than it is now and the sewer system is bursting at the seams. Then they’ll start making improvements.

As an Atlantan, born and raised, I don’t see any of the good jobs orfortune that Forbes sees or is predicting.

Atlanta’s job market is a joke. What they call job growth, is typically a low wage 9 or maybe $10.00 a hour job. Please spare me the lies. I have lived in Atlanta for almost 11 years, and one thing that I have noticed, is that this city does not have alot of professional jobs. Walmart, UPS, and Home Depot, does not cut it for educated professionals. Face it, Atlanta is a blue collar city, that markets itself on a bunch of lies. If you are in the medical field or educational field, Atlanta has a job for you, but anything else professional, forget it. Many people are leaving simply because they can’t find work, and the massive droves of prospective transplants are no longer relocating here. Don’t be fooled, the housing crisis here is not just fueled by predatory lending, the large number of forclosures is also due to the job market here. The closing of the Ford plant, and future closings of GM, Ft. Mac, and Gillum should tell you alot.

No dumb **** they might be in the IT profession, Medical field, or have their own business. In addition, idiot, a car does not display one’s economic status. Many people have high end cars they can’t afford.

You are right…and these high end car drivers, are driving leased vehicles…not their own! Read the facts.

Actually Atlanta is home to a ton of corporate headquarters. I have also read that Atlanta is the number one area for CPAs.

GSXR1000Guy
I have said this a million times before, but it is worth repeating. The rest of the state looks at traffic as “our problem” but they are always there to claim their “fair share” of the revenue that we pump into the state’s coffers. I have not seen a study or numbers, but I would bet my next paycheck that we account for at least 50% of the revenue in Georgia.

Yea Bridget, I’m a born and raised Atlantan also and I haven’t seen the jobs either. [/QUOTE]

дантист хороший - [Keith Kitchens] на [Winward Pkwy], это [exit 11 off GA400], на углу [Hwy 9 and Winward Pkwy].

[Walmart and Sams Club] на 104 екзите.
141 [Peachtree Pkwy].

Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Roswell, Norcros ?
